As a company, we aim to provide our customers with a range of candle and soap making supplies that we stand behind with confidence. We’ve always been proud to carry and promote soy wax because it’s an American-grown, renewable product, but options with consistent, reliable production are unfortunately limited. When we launched Cargill C-3 soy and C-6 soy/coconut blend waxes in 2019, we were excited to make more choices available to makers.
We always want you to be confident in the supplies you purchase from CandleScience, not just in their quality and performance but also that they are responsibly produced and sourced. Environmental and social responsibility are critically important to us, and we aren’t strangers to making difficult decisions about our product line when these things are called into question—like when we chose to discontinue palm wax from our line in 2010.
However, recent questions about Cargill’s sustainability practices and human rights violations have led us to reconsider whether they meet our standards.
An extensive 2019 report by the organization Mighty Earth shed light on the environmental destruction and human rights violations attributed to Cargill. With careful consideration, thought, and our own additional research we have made the decision to discontinue Cargill waxes from our product line. The Cargill Naturewax C-3 Soy Wax and Cargill Naturewax C-6 Soy/Coconut Wax will be discontinued once current stock is sold out.
We are actively seeking out new wax varieties that meet our stringent standards for performance, cost, and sustainability. If the time comes when Cargill demonstrably improves their working conditions and sustainability standards, we will happily consider adding their products back into our line.
We believe it’s our responsibility as a business to consider, research, and understand the human and environmental impacts of our products. We always want to be part of the solution, not a contributor to the problem. We truly apologize for any inconvenience this causes you or your company.
