Can I use mica in wax melts?

  • Updated

Mica can be used in wax melts and wickless candles. A light dusting of mica as a finishing touch works best for wax melts and wickless candles to add sparkle.

If you are looking for a dye that provides a uniform color after the wax melts, dyes specifically formulated for wax, like our Candle Dyes, would be a better option than mica.

Mica particles suspend in wax while it is solid, altering the original color of the wax. When the wax melts, the particles settle to the bottom of the melted area. Since those particles no longer provide color to the top of the melted wax, it returns to its original color. This will provide a layered look after the wax has been melted.
